Spinning!

Im really into spinning lately.

I don't remember what initially sparked my interest in it. One day I just went to Romni Wools (my favourite place to get yarns and things in Toronto) one day and asked how to get started.

I wanted to start with something
inexpensive so I bought a drop spindle and a bag of carded merino wool.

I love doing it in front of the tv or while watching a movie. It's relaxing in the same way as knitting; it's repetitive, and if you're like me, you always need to be doing something with your hands.

I still kind of struggle getting an even texture but I actually really like the unevenness of the yarn i've been making. I think it looks more homemade and it is great to knit with.

I've also been experimenting with dyeing; I tried both natural and chemical. I liked natural the best because it was inexpensive, and honestly, I feel better about making / wearing garments free of chemicals. The chemical dyeing process is a lot more predictable and even and sometimes prettier (I recently bought a really nice colour called "meadow"), but whatever.

My favourite dyeing experience was with strawberries. It made such a beautiful light pink colour; it reminded me of ice cream.

Anyways I think every knitter or crocheter should try spinning at least once. I can almost guarantee you'll get addicted.

okay so i have lots of news. lots of good news!

first: memory collector was featured in a gift guide on etsy!

WEEEE! that made my day.

second: i updated all of the shipping prices in the shop so that when more than one item is purchased, you only pay the first shipping price. (like, if you buy earrings AND a notebook, its still only $4 to ship in north america) 

third: i added four new items (one was sold already). two items in the Aunt Dharma Collection, and two items in the Great Grandma Victoria Collection. one of the items is my favourite thing ive ever made:

fourth: every item in the Miscellaneous Heirlooms Collection is now $2 cheaper!

i hope everyone had a nice valentines 
day.
i hate when people are down on that holiday. i love celebrating the people i love.
especially family. my dad always gets my sister and i a special gift and i think that's adorable.

what did you do for valentines day this year?
i went to my boyfriend's hockey game and then went to his house and he cooked me a lovely dinner. it was nice and relaxing.
i knit him a scarf to match his coat.



i haven't been doing very much crafting in the past little while but i did manage to get some new things up in the shop.
here are my favourites, some of them modeled by my gorgeous sister:

speaking of the shop, i have decided that from now until the beginning of march, all orders placed will come with a free pair of earrings!

And What's Worth Keeping, Sun Still Sinking

I dont know about you guys, but I am having a really great year already.

- I've decided to go back to school in september and I'm actually really looking forward to it.

- Im happy and healthy and so is my family.

- Im in a very comfortable relationship right now even though it's new.

- I am obsessed with knitting right now. I finally learned how to cable-knit! loook!

(it's gonna be a scarf.) (im extremely proud of myself)

I also kind of re-opened up my little art store where i sell my photographic prints and silkscreen prints and stuff.

new beginnings

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday and a happy new years!

I haven't posted in a while because ive been super busy with family problems and family fun and moving. Yep. Moving. I'm back in Ontario folks. I have to admit, I will miss Montreal. It's a beautiful city. I just feel more at home here.

Ive been doing a LOT of knitting over this winter break.  A LOT. As my camera (my baby) is still in repairs, i've kind of held off taking pictures of the stuff i've been making as the camera I have to use is crap. That being said, I did take a few pictures so I could add some new items to ye olde shoppe.

Anyways, that's about all that's new with me right now. Im just looking for a job so I can save up rent money to move in with my best friend!

gettin' cozy

first of all I would like to thank dirtyprettythings for my little feature in her blog!

now down to business.

okay so i have been a knitting maniac lately.
so much that i have thrown my shoulder into an arthritic fit.

a lot of good has come of it though. for one, i have been extremely prolific. I now have lots of knitted goods in my shop.

here are some of my favourite new things:












































I have also been getting cozy by drinking waay too much hot chocolate.
I actually believe that I have created the most perfect recipe for it EVER.
It starts off with homemade marshmallows. (recipe can be found here)














It is then followed with my hot chocolate recipe:
Ingredients

• 1 handfull of semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1 handfull of white chocolate chips
• 2 cups of 2% milk
• 1 tsp of salted butter (sounds weird but salt makes sweets taste better)

Directions

1. In a saucepan set on medium heat, melt butter in milk while continuously stirring with whisk.
   
2. When milk is hot (just before boiling), add in both chocolate chips.
3. Whisk until all chips are melted and serve immediately (with marshmallows on top!)

It ends up looking like this:















Great, now I want some.

Inspiration

So after listing all my new items in my shop, I find the time to create.
Only (and this has never happened to me before) I feel a block and have no idea what to make!

Thinking that taking my mind off of it for a while, (you're going to think im insane) I cleaned my entire bathroom with a toothbrush. Now the bathroom looks great, but I still can't create.

What do you do to inspire yourself? What helps you create?

animal danimals

i shipped things yesterday and I made cute little notes to go with them and wrapped them cute.
ive also been constantly adding things to my shop.



















i was feeling down because im lame and have arthritis at 21 so today my boyfriend took me to the biodome!




























it was fun because im obsessed with animals and ended up naming everything and dicating all of their actions.

I finally finished adding all of my newly made items to my shop! As I was doing so, Ive created a few more items so be sure to watch for them. Here are pictures of some of my favourite things:

Felted Recycled Beads

I know. I know. You are a knitter and you have a bajillion scraps of leftover yarn that are way too small to make anything with. wronnnggggg!

I promise I`ll do a tutorial on how to make these. They are the best things that have ever happened to me.

Anyways, I just uploaded these to my shop. They are made with (obviously) recycled felted wool beads.

Charm Bracelet Mania

I can`t believe how many things I have neglected to upload to my shop.
Right now im working on the charm bracelets that i`ve made.
Mraaaaa it`s taking so long!
